Wylie Bay (they/them)
Welcome! My name is Wylie, and I am a white, able-bodied, non-binary, transmasculine human who grew up in Minnesota and has been living in Portland since 2016. These identities and experiences inform the way I approach my therapy practice, and I strive to work from feminist and anti-oppressive lenses. I encourage discussion of how our social locations impact our lived experiences and how power dynamics show up in and outside the therapy room. My personal interests include rock climbing, being in nature, and making friends with neighborhood cats.
Education, Training and Experience
I graduated with a BA in Psychology from Scripps College in 2010 and worked in research labs for most of my early career until pivoting to direct social services. I graduated from the PSU Master of Social Work program in 2021. I am currently working towards licensure in the state of Oregon, and I am getting trained in EMDR therapy in early 2024.
Philosophy and Approach
My approach to therapy leans heavily on the humanistic assumption that you are the expert in your life and already have the strengths and knowledge within you to grow and heal; my role is to accompany you in your self-exploration and help you gain confidence in your internal strengths and resources. I do this by drawing on interpersonal neurobiology and polyvagal theory, narrative therapy, and mindfulness practices. My areas of focus are working with people in the LGBTQIA+ community who want to process trauma and learn skills to cope with depression, and/or anxiety symptoms. I also specialize in affirmation and exploration of gender identity. I work with adults 18+.
